Pavitra Rishta is a popular Indian daily soap opera which airs on Zee TV and is produced by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms. Pavitra Rishta portrays the simple life of common middle-class families of the Mumbai city and the day to day problems which they face. The story particularly focuses on the journey of two loving souls Manav and Archana. The show has been successful in providing Zee TV channel with one of best ratings of all time. The serial also airs on FBC TV in Fiji Islands.

Plot

The beginning
Archana's mother is one of the few people who appreciates the middle-class girl, and she is determined to help her daughter make a good match with a man who can support her comfortably. Because of this, mechanic Manav's mother Savita lies about Manav's circumstances so he can marry the girl he loves, but when his lie is discovered shortly after their wedding, Archana's mother tries to prevent their union. In this she happily fails. Archana and Manav faces many good and bad circumstances but manages to surpass them.

Four years later
Four years later, Manav is comfortably supporting his family, grown to six with the addition of four children. Soham and the twin girls Tejaswini and Ovi are Manav's and Archana's own, but they have also adopted Manav's fatherless nephew, Sachin. Turmoil again enters their lives, and this time tragedy and misunderstandings tear them apart. Soham is presumably killed during a kidnapping by Archana's sister Varsha. Then to make matters worse, Savita forges Archana's signature and claims Archana wanted a divorce from Manav. The couple separate; Archana remains in India when Manav takes Sachin and the girls to Canada. Archana tries to build a new family, adopting as a daughter the orphaned Purvi.

Eighteen years later
Although separated, Archana and Manav remained married. Both must deal with the challenges and problems that face their adult children. Later, Manav and family return to India to complete the divorce. Archana, unaware of her forged signature, is surprised when the subject of divorce is raised. She still loves Manav. But, the lawyer Sachin asks Archana to agree to divorce Manav for the sake of his real mother, Shravani. While Manav's mother Savita caused Sachin to be taken from his mother, she has allowed Sachin to believe that Archana was responsible. Archana goes along with this, but Purvi, who has discovered that Manav is her father is able to at least delay the divorce by six months by telling the court she will not take responsibility for her mother.
Purvi and Ovi are caught in a love triangle, as Ovi is in love with Arjun - the son of her father's boss DK and, after a business acquisition, the boss of both Archana and Purvi-but Purvi and Arjun have fallen in love. Purvi does not want to marry office colleague Vinay to whom her marriage is arranged, as he is only interested in the prestige and money the match can bring him. To the couple's great dismay, however, soon after they reveal their feelings to one another, DK announces that Ovi and Arjun are to wed. Only then does Purvi discover that Ovi and Tejaswini are her sisters.
Although hurt that her mother kept this secret, she decides not to tell her mother of her love for Arjun, not wishing to give hurt to her mother in turn. Arjun tries to convince Purvi that he intensely loves her and didn't knew about the engagement but Purvi doesn't pay attention to Arjun. Later Purvi and Arjun's love affair is exposed by Archana's niece Punni (Poornima) on the occasion of Ovi and Teju's birthday. Ovi still believes that Arjun loves her and it is Purvi who trapped Arjun. Manav's mother Savita arrives at Mumbai from Canada and come to know that Archana is living with Manav and her granddaughters are bonding with Archana. She tells Ovi and Teju that Archana is their mother and they starts hating her. Savita also starts making Archana's life hell.
Archana believes that Arjun has cheated both her daughters and he doesn't deserve marrying any of them. She tells Arjun if he really loves her daughter Purvi, he will have to prove himself. Arjun leaves his father's house, business, name and everything and start living in a chawl near Purvi's house. He begins to work as a mechanic in a car repair shop owned by Farukh bhai. He work hard to complete Archana's challenge of earning Rs. 10,000.It is now revealed that Archana and Manav's son Soham and Archana's sister Varsha are alive. They live with the head of kidnapper gang in Patna. Soham is known as Vishnu and considers the kidnapper to be his father. The kidnapper sends Vishnu (Soham), on an assignment to kidnap Manav's daughter. Manav saves the kidnapped Purvi, by paying the ransom. Arjun also helps in saving Purvi. Soham is then arrested by the police.
In the meantime, Archana approves Arjun as a worthy man for a daughter and the proceedings for marriage begin. Punni unsuccessfully tries to break the marriage with the help of Ovi. Ovi calls Archana when she is at Vinod's house and says that she wants to meet her. When they meet, Ovi says she knows that Archana wants her family back and that she loves them, and says she can get all that back for her only if Archana tells Purvi to break up with Arjun. Archana thnks about it and later goes back to the Deshmukh house and says that everyone is invited to Purvi's wedding even though she knows that they all reject the relationship. Ovi is seen tearing up at this point and it later seen in the kitchen slicing her wrist a knife while Teju looks on in horror. Ovi is then bandaged up by Teju.
Later, the day of Manav and Archana's divorce comes. However, the divorce is postponed 10 days because of an affidavit submitted by one of their daughters. Manav and Archana assume that the affir davit was submitted by Purvi. However, later Ovi shown to make the same proposal to Purvi that she made to Archana. She then reveals that it was she who submitted the affir davit. On her marriage day, Purvi accepets Ovi's proposal and makes Arjun marry her so that Archana can get her family back. Thus, Arjun and Ovi are married.
Arjun is very unhappy about having to marry Ovi and when he finds out about the agreement between Purvi and Ovi he becomes furious. Purvi, too, is unhappy as wasn't able to marry Arjun but she hides this. Later, Ovi confesses about the agreement to Manav and everyone else hears as well. Manav feels very upset, and Sachin begins to feel guilty about what he has done. Sachin then talks with Savita about how they were wrong in their behavior towards Archana. Teju overhears this and comes to know that Savita forged Arachana's signature on the divorce papers. At the party of Arjun and Ovi's marriage, Teju tells Manav about what she heard and Manav confronts Savita and Sachin. After finding out the full truth, he promises to live far away from Savita, leaving her devastated. Manav then fixes things up with Archana, and all three of his children apologize to her sincerely. She forgives them and they begin living together again.
One Manav and Archana start living together, they again fall in love and Purvi is trying to ignore Arjun but the latter is not able to accept Ovi
Ovi becomes very close to Archana and tries to ask her help to get Arjun's love, archana tells her that it is her duty to succeed this wedding. Manav has forgiven Sachin but not savita. He forbids the other members from talking to Savita. She is alienated in her house but Archana tries to make Manav forgive her. Manav is organizing the Ganpathi utsav and his budget is around Rs 6 to 8 millions and want to celebrates this festival with all his family. So Archana asks him to forgive Aai Savita but he does not approve of her coming to the festival. On the other hand Sulochana asked Purvi to buy things for Ganesh pooja and gives her the list. She is worried as she does not have enough money. Purvi asks her not to worry but when she sees the list, she is surprised as she also lacks money so she mortgages her jeweler which archana had made for her for her marriage but when coming out the jewellery shop, the friend of Vishnu steal the money and runs to Vishnu. the Police assumed Vishnu as the thief takes him to police station but purvi saves him by saying that it was not vishnu but his friend who had stolen the money.
Manav comes to invite Sulochana and Purvi for the ganpathi utsav and asks purvi to shift forever with him and archana. purvi is happy but denies but sulochana convinces her so after the ganesh chaturthi she is shifting there. Archana is very happy when her mother Sulochana tells her about Manav proposal.

Old Generation
Archana Manav Deshmukh(Ankita Lokhande) The main character of Pavitra Rishta is a responsible housekeeper and dutiful daughter, but because of that duty not well educated. After her marriage to Manav collapses, she completes her education and attempts to rebuild a life with adopted daughter Purvi, but she never gets over the loss of her husband and other children.
Manav Damodar Deshmukh(Sushant Singh Rajput / Hiten Tejwani) A garage mechanic who becomes a successful businessman, Manav is less successful in personal life as he loses his son and his relationship with Archana. He tries to build a new home in Canada, but after 18 years of separation finds that history is not so easily left behind.
Savita Damodar Deshmukh(Usha Nadkarni) She is Manav's mother. She initially hated Archana and desperately wanted Manav to divorce her and marry Shravani, but later she started loving Archana like her own daughter. Now that Manav has re-married Archana, she hates Archana again and drives them out of the house. She has got more selfish, as shown when she takes baby Sachin away from Shravani. Her greed for wealth makes her appear bad, but she loves her family wholeheartedly. She finally takes Archana and Manav back to her house. But feels insecure of losing Manav and starts plotting to separate them. She also breaks Sachin and Archana's relationship. Finally succeeds in doing that. After 18 years, when Manav meets Archana again, she feels insecure again, and makes divorce papers and fakes Archana's sign on it. Sachin helps her too as he believes that Archana separated him from his real mother.
Damodar Deshmukh(Ajay Wadhavkar) He is Manav's father. He is an alcoholic and quarrels with Savita all the time. He's habit has always put him and his family into some sorts of trouble. His only happiness is hidden in Manav-Archana's togetherness. He is glad when Manav meets Archana again, and is very happy at the hope of them being together. He knows what Savita has done, he couldn't have stopped her earlier because he was at hospital to stop drinking. But warns her that once Manav finds out the truth she will lose everyone she loves.
Sulochana Manohar Karanjkar(Savita Prabhune) She is Archana's mother who loves her daughters. But she loves Archana the most as she feels that it is she, because of whom Archana had lost most precious years of her childhood. She feels that Archana can do no wrong and always supports her even if she has to bear the anger of the rest of the members of her family. After 18 years, she is living with Archana and Purvi. Indirectly she to feels that Manav and Archana should separate as she cannot see her daughter agonizing.
Manohar Karanjkar(Kishor Govind Mahabole) He is Archana's Father. He is a retired T.C. He loves his wife and children a lot but doesn't know to express his feelings. He is a man having lots of self-respect. His daughter-in-law insulted him by telling him a thief. Hearing this, he left his home and went missing for 4 years. After 4 years, he returned home. Now, he is dead.
Digvijay Kirloskar (DK)(Naved Aslam) He is Manav's boss is a sophisticated kind of person, who has no time for anyone, even for his wife, this attitude of his has angered Ashana many at times. He has a lot of admiration for Manav's dedication and hardwork.
Ashna Digvijay Kirloskar(Manasi Salvi) She is DK's wife,who always feels the absencence of a small happy family and always longs to be with her husband DK who hardely values her presence around him.Now DK has transformed as he also values family love and relationships also, but unfortunately Ashana is no more with him as she died years ago due to some health problems.
Vinod Manohar Karanjkar(Parag Tyagi) He is Archana's brother. He is married to Manjusha. He earns very low in his house. He has two daughters. Because Manjusha's can't seem to fit in a joint family, he shifted out in a separate flat. He has returned back to his parents home. He is often influenced by his wife and participates in humiliating Manav. Archana severs ties with him after knowing that Manjusha accused Manav of stealing money. He is naive and stupid and always supports Manjusha not knowing her hidden motives.
Manjusha Vinod Karanjkar(Swati Anand) She is Vinod's wife. She has a very negative approach towards her mother-in-law and Vinod’s sisters. She always gets into fights with Sulochana because of her blind trust in her mother and brother. She often makes devious plans to hurt Vinod's family and has been exposed many times. Her in-laws always forgive her and hope that she will improve. She particularly despises Manav and Archana. Manjusha is a greedy woman and ultimately wants her in-laws assets to herself alone. She tried to frame Manav for stealing 1,00,000 rupees from Vinod. Later she is exposed by Archana and told to leave the house. She comes back, but everyone is still mad at her.
Varsha Satish Deshpande(Priya Marathe) She is sister of Archana. She is married to Satish. She is a career woman who took time off work for two years after her marriage and is now adamant on returning. She doesn't want to have a baby, much to her mother-in-law's dismay. However, after receiving an interview call, she discovers she is pregnant. Later she has an abortion without consulting anyone, which creates problems with her in-laws, but Satish forgives her. Varsha has had medical problems after her abortion and her doctor has told Satish that she can never be pregnant again. Varsha is shattered after overhearing this in a conversation between Vaishali and Archana. She later abducts Archana's son Soham and is presumed dead when she falls into a river.
Satish Mohan Deshpande(Anurag Sharma) He loves Varsha and married her. He tries to help everyone in his family who has problems. He still supports Varsha after finding out about her affair with his brother-in-law, Ashwin. After Ashwin told a lie about Varsha, Satish's whole family went against her. Only Satish defended her, thinking she is innocent. Satish then meets one of Varsha's former friends and accomplice of Ashwin, Rashmi, and gathered evidence against his brother-in-law. He then shows the evidence to his older sister Urmila (Ashwin's wife), and she severs ties with Ashwin. He was originally supposed to marry Varsha's older sister, Archana. He is one of the few characters who supports and understands Manav.
Vaishali Dharmesh Jaipurwala(Prarthana Behere / Madhumita Das) She is the youngest sister of Archana. She always supports Archana and her mother just like Varsha. She is now married to Dharmesh Jaipurwala, Satish's former business partner. Vaishali finds out of Dharmesh's secret marriage and is shattered.
Dharmesh Jaipurwala(Sumit Arora) He is the husband of Archana's youngest sister, Vaishaili and is Satish's business partner. He fell in love with Vaishaili and proposed in front of her parents. He is very strict in his business principles and refuses to let his relationships or feelings get in the way. He wants his sister-in-law Archana to forget Manav and move on with her life and suggests her marriage to Jaywant. He wears glasses, is shorter and small in size, has a paunch and is kind of a jerk. Vaishali is his second wife. He also has another secret relationship(first wife and child) out of this marriage, who live in Pune. He can fall to any level to protect his skin.
Madhuri Dharmesh Jaipurwala(Divjot Sabarwal) She is Dharmesh's first wife. They were married secretly long before Dharmesh got married to Vaishali. Dharmesh's parents as well as Vaishali and her family are oblivious of this prior relationship. Madhuri is aware of Dharmesh's second marriage and life in Mumbai. Madhuri lives in Pune with her son Varun. She is a simple woman, who has accepted this way of life, that she has to live alone despite having a husband. She only wants her ill child to become healthy, after which she intends to walk out of Dharmesh's life forever.
Rasika Lokhande(Smita Oak) She is Manjusha's and Ajit's mother. She hates everyone apart from her children. She is a very revengeful person and wants to ruin the lives of Archana, Manav and their families. In one episode, Savita yells at her for torturing Vandita for no reason.
Ajit Lokhande(Pankaj Vishnu) He was an evil soul. He was the main reason for Manav and Archana's divorce. Later he molested Vandita and tricked her into marrying him, thus getting closer to Manav and Archana's family and ruining them for personal reasons. That was a year ago.But a year later he transformed into a good being and became very supportive of Manav. He and Vandita also tried to help Manav to get back his love Archana. But due to major misunderstandings between him and Manav, he has once again transformed into an evil character who mistreats Vandita only to fetch money from his in-laws for his own benefits and joins hands with Dharmesh to ruin Manav, which is his sole aim.
Vandita Ajit Lokhande(Yamini Thakur) She is Manav's sister. Ajit molests her and then in public tells everyone that he raped her. She marries him because he and his mother blackmailed her into it. Ajit even beats her at times. But as time passes his attitude changes. Ajit starts respecting his wife and tries to be nice with her. Vandita has been instrumental in managing their family when they suffered hard times. Ajit has also been very supportive of Vandita. But Vandita's good fortunes do not last long and she is forced to bear Ajit's bad behaviour towards her.
Shravani Girish Mahadik(Pooja Pihal) She was Sachin's fiancee. When Sachin died, everybody came to know that she was pregnant with Sachin's child. Hearing this, her father took a promise from Manav that he should marry Shravani in oder to save her daughter's lost honour. Later, Shravani also starts loving Manav. She starts hating Archana because she thinks that Archana is coming between her and Manav. Then she gave birth to a son. On her marriage day, she realized her mistake and helped Archana-Manav to reunite. She goes abroad giving her son Sachin to Savita(later on Archana takes the charge of Sachin on her shoulders as Savita's heath conditions worsen). After 4 years, when she came back to India, Savita tried to inculcate in her mind that Archana does not love Sachin and she should take him with her but later on in the show Shravani realizes her mistake and wows never to return in the lives of Manav and Archana.

New Generation
Arjun Digvijay Kirloskar(Rithvik Dhanjani) DK and Ashna's son. He is a handsome, arrogant workaholic like his father. Arjun visits India to take over the company for which Purvi and Archana work. Arjun and Purvi have heated confrontations regarding management policy and challenged to fire her within 15 days from the company but he's now slowly getting attracted to her. He doesn't know that he love's Purvi and whenever she is with Vinay he feels uncomfortable. He's now confused with his mixed feelings. After he imagines his mom giving him advice regarding the fake MMS with Purvi, he now realised his true feelings and love for Purvi. On his engagement Purvi finds out that ovi and Arjun are getting engaged and Arjun tries to tell her the truth which she doesn't listen to him. He tells the truth to Ovi which breaks her heart. Archana challengs him to earn Rs. 10,000 on his own to marry Purvi. He fulfills his challenge and now they are going to get married. But on his wedding day he gets marry to Ovi.
Purvi Manav Deshmukh(Asha Negi) Archana's Adopted daughter. She is very simple and very beautiful girl who is educated, sweet and confident. She is trying to bring Manav and Archana together. Also, she is very protective of her mother and grandmother. She hates Arjun and had a heated confrontations regarding about the management policy. She is often confused with his multiple personalities and finds it frustrating. She misunderstands Arjun after the fake MMS incident. After Arjun confesses his feelings, she refuses at first. Later she keeps thinking about Arjun and she confesses her love for Arjun. She learns about Ovi and Arjun's engagement which she cries and is mad at Arjun then she severs all ties with Arjun and doesn't listen to him. Finally after a long time, she and Arjun are going to get married which has been her dream. But for Archana, she makes Arjun marry Ovi.
Ovi Arjun Kirloskar(Shruti Kanwar) She is Manav and Archana's twin daughter who lives with her father, sister Tejaswini and grandmother Savita Tai in Canada. Ovi is a very girly-girl type and is also called 'Barbie'by Teju. She is in love with Arjun and when comes to know that Arjun has fallen in love with Purvi creates pem. She promises Purvi that is she makes her marry Arjun, she would stop Manav-Archana's divorce. Purvi makes her marry Arjun.
Tejaswini Manav Deshmukh(Teju)(Mrinalini Tyagi) She is Manav and Archana's twin daughter who is very tomboyish, outspoken and people consider her as a rude. From dressing to thinking, she's tomboyish in every way. She is genetically like her grandmother, Savita. She lived with Archana for 3 months without knowing that she is her mother. After knowing the truth, she started hating Archana.
Sachin Deshmukh(Puru Chibber) He is Sachin and Shravani's son. He has now been adopted by Manav and Archana. He is someone who has always got more than he wanted and that’s because of Manav baba. Although, he didn't liked Archana initially, as he was told by his grandmother that she doesn’t love them. He didn’t want Manav and Archana to be together.
Soham Manav Deshmukh(Ankit Narang) He is Manav and Archana's son, he went missing 18 years back when Varsha stole Soham from Archana and ran away. He was found alive after eighteen years living in Patna with Varsha and a man. He has become a kidnapper and he kidnapped Purvi.
Poornima Vinod Karanjkar(Pooni)(Jia Mustafa) She is Vinod and Manjusha's daughter. The New Antagonist. She wanted to marry a rich guy, but she ends up with a middle-class boy. She wants Arjun for his money, but he gives attention to Purvi. Hence to drive Purvi away from Arjun, she makes a fake MMS and sends it to everyone in the office.
Ruchita Vinod Karanjkar(Ruchi) She is Vinod and Manjusha's second daughter.
Aniket Dharmesh Jaipurwala(Raashul Tondon) He is Dharmesh and Vaishali's son. He is a chubby and cute looking boy. He seems to have germaphobia and doesn't like dirt or play Holi. Teju knows this and purposely irritates him.
Varun Dharmesh Jaipurwala He is Dharmesh and Madhuri's son.
Munni Lokhande She is Vandita and Ajit's daughter.
